I have a great love of this breed and appreciation of its unique qualities from years of training which formed my dedication to breeding a Chesapeake Bay Retriever true to its hunting heritage while focusing on health, good temperament, and sound structure.
Puppies are hand raised in the home by attentive, calm mothers. Puppies are introduced to birds and water between five and eight weeks of age, when time of year and weather permit. View a short video (7 MB) of two, 5-week old brothers swimming.
All puppies come from OFA, CERF, DNA Tested, and AKC registered parents. Puppies are microchipped, AKC registered by the breeder, vet checked and given first shots. New owners are sent home with feeding instructions, and training instructions. Shipping available as an extra charge.
There is the term "by Parentage" with regards to DNA testing and listed as part of a dog's health clearances. "by Parentage" means the parents of a dog were tested and their status known for the presense of a defective gene associated with a disease. A "Clear by Parentage" means that the offspring have two normal copies of the gene. A "Carrier by Parentage" has one defective copy and will be free of the disease.
Recent concerns about Degenerative Myelopathy and the current DNA test offered are answered in this article by respected canine geneticist Dr. Jerold Bell. Understanding and Applying the Genetic Test for Degenerative Myelopathy
